Bathurst Update

The latest weather report says that it is extremely windy and has been wet since about 11.30 this morning. Those without wet weather gear ... got wet! They had a fantastic time at the Sheep and Cattle Drome where some of the group had a go at sheep shearing. They did the outdoor activities at the goldfields this afternoon and had a drive around Mt Panorama. The teachers are holding up well (well, they sound like it on the phone). Let's hope they can keep up with the dancing tonight!!!
Tomorrow's weather is looking a bit the same as today, so they may cut the stops a bit shorter on the way back and could be back at school about 4p.m. Mr Sharp will call when they are leaving Katoomba - so watch this spot!!
Now go and kick up your heels and enjoy your last hours of freedom!

Off To Bathurst ......at last!!

So far so good. No news yet, but a very excited group of kids boarded the coach this morning. By now they should be well into their activities and getting ready for a busy night ahead. Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who had their children at school on time this morning.

Congratulations - Junior Touch Footy

Congratulations PSSA Junior Touch Footy team.
On Friday afternoon the team went to Bathurst Street Oval to play the Grand Final against Girraween Public School. Both teams have been very evenly matched throughout the year and only one point separated them on the for and against ladder. Wenty got a quick try just a few minutes into the game and then again just before half time. A great field length dash completed the tries in the second half with Wenty winning 3-0. Our defense was fantastic. Keep an eye out in the school newsletter for a photo of our winners with the shield. Thanks to the students, parents and teachers that came to be the cheer squad.

PARENT WORKSHOPS - MATHS

We had the first of our 4 parent workshops in mathematics today. Ms Daher and I were pleased to spend time with 6 interested parents and discuss "addition and subtraction" Hope to see more parents next week - ring the office or send a note if you are coming so we can be prepared with resources. Thanks to those parents who attended!

ATTENDANCE

Over the last few weeks I have given out many 100% attendance awards to students for semester 1. Attendance and punctuality are very important aspects of school and later life - let's see if we can have even more awards in semester 2.

Thank you and good luck Vik!

This week we are saying goodbye to a great family, who are moving to Queensland. Vik Shah was a member of the P&C executive this year and is the driving force behind this blog. He researched, discussed issues, promoted new ways of doing things and taught us how to manage our blog. We would not have one without Vik.
Thank you Vik, you will be missed by our school community and I wish you and your family well in the future!

Premier's Reading Challenge 2008 Closing Soon

The Premier’s Reading Challenge comes to a close at the end of August. All children need to have handed in their reading sheet to me by Wednesday 27 August so I can validate their entries. No entries can be accepted after this date.
To be validated the children need to have read the required number of books and to have returned their permission slip. If they are not sure if they have returned their permission slip they can always check with me in the library.
The children will receive their certificates in December when they arrive at the school.

Book Character Parade

Book Character Parade
To celebrate Book Week we are holding a Book Character Parade. This will take place on Thursday, August 21st, at 12:15 pm.
Parents are welcome to attend and are also invited to spend lunch with their children. A picnic lunch would be ideal.
The children are asked to come dressed as a book character. This could simply mean a pair of sunglasses, a black cape and a lightening bolt scar and there you have Harry Potter.
A pirate from Treasure Island could be created from rolled up jeans, a T shirt and a scarf.
The aim of the parade is for the children to have fun.
Hoping to see you there,
Tricia Brown
Teacher /Librarian.

Book Fair 2008

The sports carnival was a great success. Congratulations to the teachers for getting all the students back to school before the storm hit. A big thanks must go to the following people who help run the canteen, Kylie, Diane, Leanne, Fiona, Tina, Alan and Steven. Without these people we would not have been able to offer a canteen. The students were VERY VERY excited and really enjoyed the day.

Sports Carnival - Canteen

The sports carnival will be on Thursday 7th August, 2008. It will be held at Roswell Reserve, Smithfield. The P & C intend on having a canteen open on this day so that the students can have a treat for recess or lunch.

We are asking for parents to make cup-cakes, chocolate crackles or toffees and donate them so they can be sold through-out the day.

The menu for lunch is yet to be set.

Could you please leave your details and what you could make at the school office or see Simonne in the uniform shop on Monday morning or in the playground.

We will also be looking for people to help out in the canteen so that the volunteer's can get out and see their children in events.

Your support will make this day run smoothly and all our children will get the benefits.

Lost Uniforms

Are you sick of your children coming home without their jacket or jumper? What about lunch boxes, how many have you had to buy this year?

WELL we have the answer for you. identikid have great labels for all occasions. Iron-ons, Vinyl labels (great for lunch boxes and drink bottles) and many more. What's even better is if you order through identikid and quote our school number which is 0459 they'll give the P&C commission. So not only are you fixing your problem but you are also raising money for the school. It's a win win situation.

You can pick up brochures from the uniform shop or school office or simply go on-line at http://www.identikid.com.au/ don't forget to quote our school code (0459). So tell your family and friends and neighbours too. The more people who order the better it is for our school.

Welcome to the P&C Blog

Welcome to the Wentworthville Public School's Blog site. The P&C Association is maintaining this and other relevant sites.

A bit about Wentworthville Public School...

Wentworthville Public School is located in the heart of Wentworthville and is bounded by Station St, Fullagar Rd, Monash St and Garfield St. Wentworthville is approximately 22km west of the Sydney CBD and 2km west of Parramatta CBD.

For more than 116 years (since 1891), Wentworthville Public School has catered for the educational needs of the children of this community. The school community welcomes students of many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. 80% of our students come from Language Backgrounds Other Than English (LBOTE). Our school community works proudly together to maintain a harmonious, safe and friendly environment where all students have equal opportunities to learn and grow together.

We have an active Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) that meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in the administration block. Everyone is welcome to attend, we look forward to seeing you there!

Members of the P&C Association have set up a discussion forum that will both email based and blogging (at this site) in the hope that more parents and community members are involved.

These medium of communications would provide opportunities to those parents or community members that may not be able to attend the P&C meetings and yet would love to voice their opinions and concerns.

An active P&C committee would lead to further betterment of the quality of education provided by the school.

Thank you from the P&C executive!
